Modern Foreign Languages

We at Mead believe that MFL prepares pupils to participate in a rapidly changing world in which work and other activities are often carried out in languages other than English.  The teaching of Spanish will enable the pupils to develop skills that they will be able to access in the future, to learn new languages or to improve their competence in an existing language.

Increased capability in the use of MFL promotes initiative, confidence and independent learning and encourages diversity within society.

Our aims of teaching through Language Angels.

Spanish in KS2

· To stimulate and encourage children’s curiosity about language and other cultures;

· To encourage children to be aware that language has structure and the structure varies from one language to another;

· To lay the foundations for further study

Our pupils will learn a range of vocabulary linked to topics and themes, with necessary grammar taught in an age-appropriate way across the primary phase.

Skills:

Children will be able to demonstrate the four key language learning skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing.

Children will use role play in a range of scenarios to explore foreign languages in the different contexts whilst celebrating Language of the Month.
