At Mead our aim is that all children will be ‘lifelong learners’ with the confidence and ability to develop their skills and understanding when having new experiences, meeting new challenges and finding themselves in unfamiliar situations. We share a cohesive vision to help children to understand and value how they and others fit into and contribute to the world. We have a strong emphasis on building resilience and nurturing mental and physical health through the delivery of a programme of engaging and relevant Citzenship within a whole school approach. Our approach aims to develop the qualities and attributes children need to thrive as individuals, family members and members of society and the global community.
Knowledge:
Our pupils will learn about aspects of social, moral, spiritual and cultural life that help them become well-rounded citizens. They will also develop the knowledge of when and how they can ask for help.
Skills:
Citizenship aims to cover a wide range of the social and emotional aspects of learning, enabling children to develop their identity and self-esteem as active, confident citizens.
Enrichment:
Children will have a wide range of experiences across the entire curriculum that develop them socially, morally, spiritually and culturally. These include our Pupil Parliament meetings, visits to museums and places of worship, having visitors in school that increase awareness of issues such as safety on line and weekly Worldy Wise assemblies.
Teachers follow the Jigsaw programme, but they will also respond to children’s personal and social issues as and when they arise.
Jigsaw half termly themes:
- Being Me in My World
- Celebrating Difference
- Dreams and Goals
- Healthy Me
- Relationships
- Changing Me
Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Development
At Mead we encourage all children to develop their Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) awareness through each curriculum area. SMSC is deeply embedded throughout the whole of the PSHE curriculum and the themes that are taught throughout the year. Every lesson offers opportunities for children’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) development, and this is clearly mapped and balanced across each year group.
